Old Places of Interest - for reference

The Island

The Island, formed on a bend in the mighty Nethril river just to the East of Hadrian, has always been a place of mystery and wonder. As long as anyone can remember people have had wild stories about the spot and the mysterious disappearances surrounding it.
All the River Captains know to make a wide birth past the small outcrop of land where many a ship has run afoul and been dashed against the jagged stone reefs on its shores; their crew, or so it is said, enchanted by the wonders of the place. Not many adventure to go here and of those that do, even fewer return.

Hilltop

Hilltop is a Halfling village nestled in a valley to the northeast of Hadrian, nearly hidden among the surrounding hills and winding trails that cover them. Hilltop is practically built to reflect the natural beauties around it and is home to a small community of Halflings. Waterfalls feed into streams that flow through the town and meet at its center, flowing around a small island with a tree surrounded by rocks. The locals can often be seen walking through town enjoying the weather, tending to livestock, or working in the mines. Places of interest within the village include its inn and its mine. The inn is located right in the heart of the village and is one of the largest buildings, it is a wonderful place for those seeking food, drink, rest, and hospitality. The mine is located under the trail leading into town, it is directly behind the mayor's house and always welcomes those looking for work.

Runaway's Hole

The Runaway's Hole is a haven for gnomes avoiding the slavery their race is often subjected to. It is a small community hidden deep underground, it contains little of interest and its inhabitants are mindful of outsiders. Market stalls and primitive stone buildings make-up the majority of the refuge, each building serving a purpose as food storage or as a resting place. Though the living conditions may seem rather poor, the gnomes seem to have found methods for cultivating crops, an underground water source with fish, and learned how to raise livestock. Four of the stone buildings each specialize in storing and possibly selling different types of food, each of these four deals with either fruits, vegetables, fish, or meat. The fruit building also has a second filled with bedrolls for resting. Overlooking the refuge is a large, two-story stone building, it is likely used as another resting place or as the home of their leader. Though such information would be difficult to truly determine as the gnomes a reluctant to deal with outsiders and seem content merely with being left alone.

Abbey of the Moon

The Abbey of the Moon is an area of worship dedicated to Selune, the goddess of the moon. Located south of Southbank, many followers of Selune traverse the treacherous roads filled with bandits and wild animals on their pilgrimage there. These pilgrims can often be seen at the Abbey, enjoying the surrounding wildlife and praying to the shrine of Selune. Those seeking to join the Swords of the Lady also make the treacherous journey and pass through the Abbey on their way to the nearby Moonglow Keep. The area is well-maintained by the followers of Selune and is the perfect place to visit for any who worship her.

Moonglow Keep

Moonglow Keep is home to the knightly order known as the Swords of the Lady. Located to the east of the Abbey of the Moon, the keep attracts many of the more militant faithful of Selune. However, the Swords welcome members of other faiths as well and as such multiple orders, each worshipping a different deity, have been established and incorporated into their ranks. Thus it is not uncommon to see the many knights within and around the Keep following different deities. The Keep itself, while not the largest, is an impressive and sturdily built structure. Near the Keep are training grounds and a jousting area where many knights are often seen honing their skills. Within walls, the Keep has living quarters for the knights, a dinning hall, and a library containing texts both sacred and important to the Swords. Those seeking allies to assist in the destruction of evil or wishing to join the Swords of the Lady will likely find themselves here.

Hadrian

The main part of the local area, supplying the great Enclave of Valstiir. Trade and Adventuring are high, with the Noble Houses controlling the Trade, Defence and Information supplied to those that live and work in what was, in the beginning, a Fishing Village on the river but continues to grow.

Hadrian has farmlands to the North and East of the village and a swamp to the West caused by water movements as the town was built. Across the river from Hadrian is SouthBank, which is a small port that gives access to the other side of the river, which has over time had attacks from the Orcs, that control the Hills behind the small settlement.

Airships and riverboat are always seen coming and going for the town, bringing in and out supplies. These ships can take you to many different places of trade and adventure.

Sullivan's Port

Sullivan's Port, a trading port that where monster and alike walk freely around ... selling their wares to each other and passing merchants and adventurers. Currently in the hands of and run by a Minotaur.

The only law out this way is the word of the Sullivan, and the port is known to move around from time to time depending on its impact in the area.

Old Graveyard

Located to the east of Southbank, this graveyard holds many warriors and soldiers from past battles in the area. it is known walking in the graveyard at night is unwise, as some of the lost souls are known to walk about the graveyard.

Grave robbers are common, as well as passing tribes of monsters like goblins and bugbears.

Wonbrie Woods

Little is known about these woods and is said to be located on a large river island east of the town of Hadrian but it edges have never been found from within and no map has ever been made of it many trials. Fey have been seen in numbers of late as well as Undead and other creatures that call the woods home. It is as though something is always watching you as you walk in the woods and the rocks with eyes don't help that feeling.

Enter at your only risk and don't get lost in the many caves and crypts that can be found with its boundaries.

Nualla'n

This is a small elven settlement located near the edge of the Great Eastern Forest. It is the closest Elven town to the Netherial Empire, so can be a place travelers and alike visit to communicate with the race of Elves. It can be reached by Airship or now by foot, after the recent attack by Orcs that caved a path in the forest to attack the settlement.

Southbank

Southbank is a port south of Hadrian, across the Netheril River. It is comprised mostly of warehouses and a few homes for the workers and sailors who are constantly working on delivering shipments to and from various places. The areas surrounding Southbank are mostly wilderness and home to bandits and wild animals alike, thus Southbank is surrounded by a large wall to protect its workers from the many dangers that lurk beyond. Aside from the many ships that travel through the area and the large number of warehouses, Southbank has little to offer for the common folk. After a long day of work, many enjoy the comforts that the local Whistling Pig inn provides. As such, it is a place those looking for work and adventure alike often find themselves.
