It seems theses skills are built up over time starting with small babies or young ones then moving up to large creatures. You read it doesn't come without any risk but the best Trainers have an ability to talk or some what read the minds of the creatures they are seeking to train.

You continue to read about Trainers in the region and find reference to one called James Mockingbird, his last known location was the Gers River Asylum. He was the Head Animal Trainer for the Valstiir Arena for many years. *
